Yo Gabba Gabba

While reading this month’s issue of Print, or some magazine of similar content, an article about the new kids’ show Yo Gabba Gabba caught my eye. Not being a kid, or even having any can be a huge disadvantage, particularly when it comes to keeping up with cool stuff - and this show looks pretty cool, which is why I’m just now hearing about it.

With the vibrant colors, high-energy songs, regular appearances by Biz Markie and Mark Mothersbaugh, and guest appearances by the likes of Tonk Hawk, The Aquabats, and the Paul Frank Monkey I can only imagine the uber-generation of future designers, marketers, and entertainers that are being brought up on this show right now.

It looks like a beautiful show. Thankfully, there’s YouTube to fill in the gaps for us oldbies:

Beaker as Caffeine Test Subject

It has been crazy at work and all the way around, so posting has been scarce. At times like this, coffee is a must at all times of the day. Fortunately, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his trusty assistant Beaker are on the job determining just how much caffeine is TOO much caffeine.

There are a quite a few other muppet videos on YouTube. My recommendations :

Happy Fauschnaut Day!

Where I come from Fat Tuesday is known as Fauschnaut Day. Traditionally my family celebrates this day by getting the best doughnuts they can find and having a little party before Lent begins. While we were never strict observers of Lent, we were always sure to celebrate Fauschnaught Day. My wonderful parents are responsible for passing on some pretty special traditions, and this one is one of the greatest. I hope you’re all indulging a bit today

Sleeeep

A company named Zyren has an interesting “clock” that they are marketing as the sleep system Night Cove that controls the ambient light in your environment. As a huge fan of sleep I can only imagine the endless hours of well managed, scientifically crafted sleep it could provide - just the thing for the wonky winter nights in Alaska. Despite my torrid love affair with sleep I remember the days when I was a morning person and I miss them. [via]

Super Happy Fun Time Friday

Things that have caught my eye today that I wish I had time to look at more, but will probably have to wait until I get home because of all the things that need to get finished before the weekend starts. LTMS (Laughing to Myself… after hearing the word weekend).

Imitating a Scanner Darkly: A tutorial on how to create this style of illustration from photos. Potential for creeping out your friends here.

FastStone Screen Capture: A little app that adds screen capture options to your context menu. I haven’t tried this yet so I’m not sure if it makes your system explode.

The Pixel to Em Calculator: If you don’t know what this means then you probably don’t need it.

GlasZone: Only because I like glass and love architectural glass.

Bus Tales: An interesting concept for a site. Now there is a place to tell everyone about the crazies you meet on the bus.

UNKL Brand Stuff: Cool fun things with lots of style.

When I get home my dog will be ecstatic, but that is because she has an IQ of 5.

Things Her Boyfriend Says

Alright, this website has been circulating around and I’ve seen it mentioned on a few of my regular reads. Things My Boyfriend Says posts hilarious snippets of conversation between a girl and her boyfriend, and I’m sorry I didn’t visit it earlier because I fell off my chair from laughter.

In related news, there is a similar blog for designers, AdVerbatims, that is a collection of exchanges between creatives and their clients and management. Priceless because we have all heard them before (and shame on you if you’ve actually said them).

Art Nouveau Aliens

I love this image by Carlos Schwabe posted at BibliOdyssey. It reenforces a sneaking suspicion - looking at H.R. Giger’s work - that there is something reminiscent of art nouveau in his organic sinew (Alien and Necronomicon). The gratuitously dark and captivating cold stare framed by dark braids that could easily be mistaken as segments of an alien digestive system is surprisingly haunting, and gives the woman’s face the same nonhuman quality.

Ironically, both artists are born from Swiss roots.

    About this Site

This site is maintained by Christen Bouffard, who began life as Christen Booth. Much has happened since that time - Star Wars, pleated jeans, air soles, Pong, Pearl Jam, GPS navigation, mega-churches, SUVs, and ranting on the internet about things no one cares for. I've been rolling my eyes most of my life.
